More Weather Warnings for the UK

A yellow weather ice alert has been issued for the east coast of England.  Towns up and down the coast were hit by floods last night, but not as badly as experts predicted.

Over the weekend, Yorkshire and Humber, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex will be hit with snow, sleet, and ice.  East Anglia, London, and the East Midlands are also under a yellow alert warning.

Around 2cms of snow is forecast and temperatures are expected to fall to 0 degrees Celsius in the south and east of England.  London and the East Midlands will see temperatures drop further to -1 degree Celsius.

The Met Office chief forecaster said, “Clear spells on Saturday evening and night will lead to an early frost. Wintry showers are expected to affect parts of Norfolk and the east of Suffolk and are likely to lead to more widespread icy stretches developing on untreated surfaces or surfaces where prior treatment is washed off.

“Later on Saturday night and during Sunday morning more general rain, sleet and snow will spread across the area from the west and north. Some slight accumulations of snow are expected, 1 to 2 cm, mainly over higher ground above 150 m. This is also likely to lead to ice forming in places.”

Flood Risk

The Met officer confirmed the flood risk had dropped.  She continued, “Our flood guidance statement isn’t amber anymore and the risk is decreasing. The winds that were associated with the flooding are easing and will continue to ease throughout today.”

Evacuated residents in Jayden were allowed to return to their homes.  They report no signs of flooding and were frustrated that they were told to leave their homes as the reports were wrong.

However, residents in Whitby, West Mersea, and Hornsea were not so lucky and had to battle floods all night.  People were evacuated from affected areas.
