Why supermodel Cara Delevingne is facing a backlash over Maldives holiday

Model of the moment Cara Delevingne is facing a backlash for showing off snaps of a free holiday in Maldives on social media. The model, who is well known for her love of a party lifestyle, along with her sister Poppy and 160 friends have been treated to a week-long break in the Maldives.

She has been asked to post images on social media in a bid to provide some publicity for the Finolhu Baa Atoll resort. However, the PR stunt appears to have backfired. Many people have taken to social media to plead with the model to stop posting images.

People in cold Britain, and some of those left struggling to afford to life day to day let alone jet off to the Maldives have posted a string of responses to the images. Stylist Grace Woodward said she was now blocking those involved in the holdiay from her Instagram so she would not be subjected to any more photos.

Meanwhile, television producer Luke Alkin added: “Intolerable. Absolutely intolerable.”

Champagne hotline

Cara is part of a large group of models, socialites and various hangers-on who have spent the week partying and drinking cocktails and Champagne. All 136 villas on the island have their own Champagne hotline, with each number on the telephone keypad offering up a different brand.

Among guests on the island, who between them have posted hundreds of images, were model Arizona Muse, make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury and actress Jaime Winstone. Cara, who was the biggest celebrity on the island has uploaded only a few snaps to her Instagram page, which has 36 million followers.

On its website, the resort describes itself as effortlessly stylish, adding that understated luxury was the name of the game. It seems, however, that there was nothing understated about the huge free holiday which has been splashed across Instagram.
